I am not convinced that the pro-American Afghans really want to fight for their country. However, the Talliban do. This reminds me of South Viet Nam and North Viet Nam. I hope the result is different this time, but I am not optimistic.
I think that President Obama is taking the best course where there are really no good choices. We must not forget that this whole mess was created by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.
My presumption is that President Obama knows more about the true situation in Afghanistan than we do. So until this latest surge fails, I am going to give our President time and space to desl with this very difficult situation.
Many, especially Republicans, talk about "victory" in Afghanistan; however, no one to my mind has defined what "victory" will look like. So why wil we soon have 100,000 US troops in Afghanistan? I really like Obama, but I think he made a mistake here.
