Is A Job's Summit Too Little Too Late?
President Obama has called for a job's summit in December. As a result, he is drawing fire from both the right and the left. Basically both sides are critical of Obama because he is once again "studying" a problem instead of taking action while millions of Americans remain unemployed. What do you think?

It's tough to take credit for preventing something from getting worse. Thanks to Obama we avoided another Great Depression; however, that's not easy to prove especially with the Republicans pounding the same talking point that unemployment is over 10% for the first time in 27 years or so. Let's hope that unemployment improves by the fall of 2010 and that Afghanistan stabilizes.
ReplyDeleteThe four big issues upon which we will judge Obama in the fall of 2010 are:
ReplyDelete1. The economy meaning unemployment
2. Health care insurance reform
3. Afghanistan
4. Global warming
I am hopeful that he will be successful on all of these issues; however, very powerful forces are not only hoping he fails but working to make sure he fails. Is is so sad for our country and it makes me sick.
All I hear from the liberal left is "blame Bush, blame Bush." Well, that won't fly in the fall of 2010. What liberals forget is that under Bush, we actually won in Iraq. And we now have Iran surrounded. Obama's super cautious approach to the problems listed by Janice above will hurt him and our country and he will have no one to blame but himself.
ReplyDeleteArianna Huffington predicts that "unemployment will be Obama's Katrina" in that like Bush and Katrina, there were plenty of warnings that a disaster was about to happen but those warnings were ignored until it was too late. I am a bit disappointed in Obama in that he is calling for a job's summit. I am a firm believer that a camel is a horse put together by a committee. Obama needs to take charge and make decisions and then be ready to make changes if his decisions don't work.
ReplyDeleteHey Proud Republican, are you nuts? Bush drove our country into the ditch and left our country in one of the worst situations in our history both domestically and internationally. So we have Iran surrounded. What are you proposing? That we attack Iran too? How many foreigh wars can we afford to fight ... and for what? Oil?
ReplyDeleteVictor, please cool your jets and ease off on the personal attacks. It's okay if you disagree with another commentator, but please stick to the issues.
ReplyDeleteApparently, this question about President Obama's jobs summit and his related style of decision making has stirred things up. I am glad about that, but let's keep the comments regarding each others views respectful. another.
NDC Blog Moderator, your point is well taken. Often the views of Republicans drive me nuts, but it should not do so to the point that I call others names especially on thei blog which I enjoy. Proud Republican, I apologize. You are welcome to post your comments and although I will probably disagree with your point of view, I will confine my remarks to that.
ReplyDeleteVictor, no apology is needed. Often liberal Democrats drive me nuts too. But the moderator of this blog is correct. I enjoy exchanging views on this blog. By the way, my name is Dwight and I live in Northville. What is the name of the moderator? I presume that you live in Northville since this is the Northville Democratic Club blog.
