Senator Snowe Votes In Favor of the Baucus Bill

Senator Snowe of Maine voted in favor of the so called Baucus Health Reform Bill. So now the Democrats can say they have bipartisan support. What does this mean to you?

Also, the Republicans are now going to deny Snowe a committee chairmanship as punishment for her vote. What do you think of that?

  1. Let's face it. For the most part, Republican Senators are old, rich white guys who are totally out of step with the majority of the American people. If it weren't for the deep South and some sparcely populated Western states, there wouldn't be any Republicans in Congress. One can only hope.

  2. I just don't get it. Why is Snow's vote such a big deal? We have 60 Democrats in the Senate. 60! Reed should show some Peloci and get the public option passed.

  3. Many Democrats are upset because of Blue Dog Democrats who won't fall in line with their party and support the public option. Snow is no different. She has betrayed her party and should suffer some consequences for doing so.

Thank you for the lively debate.

  5. There's "betraying your party" and "voting your conscience". Republicans and Democrats both want reform, but on their own terms and to get credit for it. If universal healthcare gets through (somehow), there's no way the Republicans could take it away, unless it gets whittled down to nothing like Social Security has.

  6. Republicans are vindicative and effective! We need to take a lead from their play book. If our Democratic majority can't pull it together, then we need to respond like the Republicans. Sad to say, but its a game of "you are either with us or against us." If the Democratic leadership can't twist a few arms, then we are doomed as a party. We will get nothing accomplished and we will spend another eight years suffering under Republican and special interest rule. As for Senator Snowe, she did the right thing. She voted for change. She may be viewed as a traitor by her party but I have to think that there are a lot of Republicans out there suffering too with teh health care system and are probably glad that Senator Snowe at a minimum has voted for change. She has bowed out of the party of "No."
