Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard named Michigan Secretary of State Terry Lynn Land as his running mate as he seeks the Republican nomination for governor. This may bode well for Jocelyn Benson who is seeking the Democratic nominaton for Secretary of State.
Other Republicans seeking the nomination for governor are Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder, U.S. Representative Peter Hoekstra, state Senator Tom George and Tim Ryan, a Huron County emergency medical technician.
The leading candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor appears to be Lt. Governor John Cherry.

I had the pleasure of speaking with A.G. Cox recently and I as usual am fixated on job creation. I asked if the state should review the performance of the deals they have made with Michigan based multi-nationals; where tax relief was given with the promise of jobs delivered. He quickly changed the subject to how Michigan's tax structure should be like Indiana's so that we could compete against them for job creation. OMG...Indiana the same state that Whirpool just pulled out of for Mexico. Indiana the same state that has been devistated by the loss of RV manufacturing jobs. Personally I thought Mr. Cox was a nice person and may indeed be the next governor. If that happens it's clear that it will be more of the same...the needs of economic globalization over a sustainable middle class life style for the citizens of this once great state.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your thoughtful and probably accurate perspective.
I agree with Anonymous. I hope Cherry wins. However, Mr. Excitement he is not.

ReplyDeleteLet's hope that voters go for substance over style. However, in this age of Sarah Palin, Cherry'c chances do not look good.

ReplyDeleteGood observations. Some Democrats are urging Ficano to run for governor, but he says he is not interested. What ever happened to David Bonier?
